My Postman loves his job – do you? Part 1
By Suzanne Waldron | Feb 10, 12 08:29 AMGenerally people who enjoy their job understand themselves, what they enjoy and are good at.
My postman gave me an incredible experience this week. Yes that’s right, my postman.
Let’s start from the beginning:
Have you ever felt like you don’t fit in, not sure if you like your job, or see it in the people around you?
Life just doesn’t seem quite right and you’re not sure why?
Do you even see these elements in your staff members or co-workers? They seem ‘OK’ and do an average to good job, yet they still lack vibrancy and energy?
Well this is a common occurrence I see in organisations and indeed individuals.
Which brings me to my postman.
Enthusiasm is contagious
On Saturday he came bounding down the driveway literally skipping, and sang out to me:
“Are number six in? I have a lovely parcel for them.”
As I looked up his beaming face and enthusiasm made me chuckle.
“I really hope they're in, it’s lovely receiving parcels and I really don’t want to take it back to the post office.”
As he continued his speedy skipping down the driveway and saw number six were indeed in, he made his way back towards me with a huge grin on his face.
“They are in. I’m so happy” and he sped off to retrieve the parcel from his van.
His energy was infectious and I thought to myself, that man loves his job.
Considering he delivers parcels all day long, every day of the week and has done for some time, some may think his is a tedious and boring job.
Do you love your job?
Then I started to consider: What is it about this man that makes him so happy about delivering parcels?
Generally people who enjoy their job understand themselves, what they enjoy and are good at.
The more we seek out and understand what we excel at, the more likely we are to be successful and ultimately satisfied with life.
Issues arise when we limit ourselves by not understanding what really makes us tick. Often we live our life in auto pilot and tend to gravitate to what we know we can do and then get stuck in a rut.
Questions start to arise like:
- What is life about?
- Why am I getting average results at work/in life?
- I don’t feel happy and need more in my job/life – how do I change for the better?
If you are interested in exploring these questions, stay tuned for Part 2 next week.

I LOVE my job too. Blessed are we Sarah ;) And yes Suzanne, thanks so much for this great piece. I'll await part 2 enthusiastically as well! Reply
Thanks Suzanne! Well I do love my job - in fact I created my business around my own experiences and passions, but it's so true how many people out there are just so miserable in their job choices (and I came across this day in and day out when I worked in recruitment). Will look out for Part 2 next week! xReply
