My Postman loves his job - do you? Part 2
By Suzanne Waldron | Feb 21, 12 03:20 PMLook inwards to see what really is important to you.
Last week I told the story of my postman, who is so happy in his job, his infectious energy lights up everyone around him.
In your world there may be rumblings of unhappiness or the sense of being average. You may even see it in those around you and you want to make positive changes. Let me share some insight on how to become happier, more successful in the job you’re in right now.
To become more successful in whatever you choose, look inwards to see what really is important to you. Choosing activities in your life in order to achieve whatever you set out to, whether personal or professional comes back to one thing:
You.
Or more specifically your attitude and your skills.
My postman is certainly in the right job for him. His pleasures are in the reactions of others and their satisfaction.
OK, so he may not have set out with a plan in his life to deliver parcels, I couldn’t really say, however what he does know about himself is that it gives him pleasure to make others happy.
And he does it with absolute energy and genuine passion that sets him apart from others who do not have this energy about them.
An attitude worth catching
Attitudes are contagious. Is yours worth catching? His certainly is.
If this resonates with you, ask yourself these questions:
- How many nights a week do I whinge about work/life?
- Do I feel like I do an OK job at work though I would really like to do better I’m just not sure how?
- What is it that really motivates me and gets my enthusiasm at a peak?
- Are there some things in my life I want to do more with, and never seem to get momentum?
- Do I have a goal, personal vision in which I’m working towards?
I am sure you, like me, council friends and colleagues when they are feeling a little lost. Do them a favour and share this post with them and help them with direction.
Look back at Question 1: Do you whinge?
Try this activity today and monitor the results. Choose 1 hour and live in a ‘whinge free zone’.
Top Tip: You are not in control of others emotions, only yours. This activity is about you not whinging or engaging in others whinging. After the hour think about how you felt during this process. What were the challanges/positivies and why? How did those around you react?
I get such positive feedback and surprise results from such a small change when people who try this seemingly easy activity.
Make one small positive change for yourself today!
I would love to hear your thoughts on the results. How did you make those choices? Tell me your story.
