Simon says ...
By Rebecca Bodman | May 11, 12 01:50 PMOur workshops with Simon Sinek last week were filled with little gems of delight, inspiration and so much sense. Here are our favourite quotes from Simon …
What’s your why?
"When you work really hard but don't know where you're going it's called stress. When there's a destination it's called passion."
"When we have a clear destination the route is flexible."
"The goal is to surround yourself by people who believe what you believe."
On leadership …
"You cannot lead a company; you can run a company. You lead people."
"If people are willing to take risks for you, willing to sacrifice for you, then you're a leader."
"Leaders are the compass. That's the only role of a leader."
"You can learn more about someone by who they follow than you can about the leader"
"We follow leaders not for them, but for ourselves."
On people …
"Curiosity is the single most valuable asset in your people."
"Big things happen because young people have crazy ideas; it's beautiful!"
"We're not joining a company; we're joining a team, a group of people."
Simon says …
"Stop worrying about things you can't control, and start obsessing about things you can."
What did Simon say that ignited the light bulb in your brain?
The other one that's stuck in my head is "You must treat your company like a family. Your people like your children. You love your children every day but you don't like your children every day. Same goes for your team." Reply
Wasn't so impressed with the presentation. If you had downloaded his book in audible it was almost word for word. Here is my post about my thoughts.http://t.co/TnT6s6pNReply

By Emma Isaacs NSW | May 15, 2012, 11:20 AMThanks Danielle for your feedback and sorry that Simon's content didn't hit the mark for you. Out of the 600 or so attendees from last week's workshop yours is the only negative feedback we've received so far, so we were disheartened to hear you were let down. I've read the book, watched the TED talk (about 10 times!) and heard him speak live five times now, and have learnt something different each and every time, so I'm sorry that you weren't impressed and thought he 'lacked innovation'. All the best, and thanks again for your feedback.
A very inspirational event. I had a few loose and random thoughts on my 'why' at the start. These were all brought into sharp focus following Simon's discussion and now I feel really energised. Thanks for the opportunity to listen.Reply
