Introducing Natasha Stott Despoja

By Penny Newton | Jan 28, 11 10:58 AM

Regarded as one of Australia’s most dynamic campaigners, the charismatic Natasha Stott Despoja joins Business Chicks in Adelaide to share her inspirational story of how, at just 26 years old, she become the youngest woman to enter Federal Parliament.

Progressing from student politics in her university days to Senator for South Australia in ten short years, Adelaide born-and-bred Natasha has already made a significant contribution to a huge range of policies and bills that affect our everyday lives, including higher education, science and biotechnology, women, work and family, paid maternity leave, the Republic, and, her proudest policy work to date, drafting of a private member's bill on stem cell research which helped ensure the future of therapeutic cloning in Australia.

The youngest woman ever to enter the Australian Federal Parliament, Natasha has held the positions of Australian Democrats Leader and Deputy Leader and is also the longest serving Democrat Senator.

Now, balancing her political duties with columnist for The Adelaide Advertiser, Director of beyondblue, plus UNIFEM Ambassador, and her biggest role to date, mum, Natasha’s story about overcoming extreme personal and professional adversity to chase down her dream is an inspiration that should not be missed.
