Congratulations on winning the National Commonwealth Bank Business Owner Award category at the Telstra Business Women’s Awards. How did you feel when they called out your name? Excited and honoured! After meeting all the other finalists over the previous days I knew how stiff the competition was.  Having my family and friends, especially my husband and two children, there to share the excitement made it even more special.

What has winning this award meant for your career? The exposure that our business and products have received, in both the pharmacy and wider media, has been significant. I'm excited about the number of opportunities on the horizon.  It's also been great to have a chance to highlight the important role pharmacists play in meeting the increasing health needs of our ageing population.

What gets you out of bed in the morning? I have a real passion for what I do and work with a great team of people who provide a constant source of stimulation and inspiration - it’s easy to face each day with excitement and enthusiasm!  That said, an early morning gym workout followed by a great coffee also helps to kick each day off with a bang.

What are you most proud of in your career so far? Taking the intellectual property we had developed in our aged care pharmacy business, and converting that into a TGA licensed manufacturing business, was a really significant milestone in our business journey. The day we passed our first TGA audit and were advised that we had been successful was a very proud moment for me and my team.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given (and by whom)? Melissa Dunn-Lampe (Clifton Strengths Finder Leadership Facilitator) told me to always be aware of, and honest about, my own strengths and weaknesses.

It's important to ensure that you construct your leadership team with that knowledge at the front of your mind.

What’s next? I will be continuing to deliver on the tremendous growth opportunities available to APHS Packaging, and consolidating our position as a global leader in the delivery of medication compliance solutions for an ageing population. 

As a family we are also very much looking forward to a trip to London for the Olympic Games.
