Debbie Hemi is the General Manager VIC at iGroup; a marketing communications company. Debbie chats with us about her experiences and motivations

Who is a business person you find inspiring? I always find this a difficult question to answer, as I believe people enter your life for a reason.  It is in your control to recognise; is it for you to inspire me or me to inspire you.

If money were no object, what would you do/experience? I would love to travel the world with my entire family tasting all the authentic cuisines of the world.

What's the best Business Chicks experience you've ever had? Every interaction I have with Business Chicks is the best; the next experience I have supersedes the last.  The business and personal growth I gain is awesome and overwhelming at times.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learnt during your career? Get off your own agenda and truly listen, as my son was taught at his first week at school “full body listening”.

If you could meet one person, living or dead, who would it be and why? Minoko Iwasaki who in the 1960’s and 1970’s lived as Geisha.  She also assisted the author of “Memoirs of a Geisha” with the factual correction or confirmation of the research. What intrigues me is the selflessness , control and discipline for perfection of a Geisha.

If there was one piece of advice you could give to someone starting out in your industry/aspiring to your job, what would it be? Stay focused on the task at hand, care for all those around you and ensure to stay true to yourself

How do you define success? Success – wanting to jump as high as I can and shouting from the rooftops we did it!!  Self satisfaction, personal accomplishment, kicking the goals, ensuring all those around you are part of the experience.

What motivates you? Passing on my learning’s to all those that enter my journey of life.  Making a difference, having a positive impact on people’s lives.

What’s been the highlight of your career so far? The present. Moving my family from Sydney to Melbourne so I could head up our Melbourne branch.  Knowing that my MD, Paul Tannous, and my family, and more importantly my partner believe I can do this and therefore support me all the way. The coffee, OMG, the coffee experiences we have had in Melbourne are exceptional.
